Individual bike tour along the Nemunas Delta and the Curonian Spit (7 days)
This tour offers a great opportunity to explore Klaipeda, the Curonian Spit, and the most popular Lithuanian seaside resort Palanga whilst riding a bicycle at your own pace. Most cycle tracks are asphalt lanes that stretch along the Baltic coast, with several miles-long rides in the forest or on country roads. This is an even-surface trip with several hills and slopes only.
Trip agenda:
Day 1. Arrival in Klaipeda. Meet and greet with the guide. A walking tour around Klaipeda. An overnight stay in Klaipeda.
Day 2. Klaipeda-Palanga-Klaipeda. (around 34 mile-long-bike ride).
You will leave the hotel on your bicycles and ride all the way to Palanga. The cycle track stretches across the Seaside Regional Park. On your way, you make a stop next to the largest precipice of Lithuania called the Dutchman’s Cap. Palanga is the most popular seaside resort in Lithuania. It is home to the historic Tiskeviciai Palace and the Amber Museum. Tourists enjoy leisurely walks along the pedestrian promenade which leads onto the bridge to the sea. A 34-mile-long bike ride back and an overnight stay in Klaipeda.
Day 3. Klaipeda -Vente Cape- Silute. (around a 34-mile-long bike ride and about an 18-mile-long bus trip)
In the morning you will have a transfer to the Klaipeda region of Memelland. The cycle track starts next to the Canal Guillaume and stretches along the Curonian Lagoon. On your way, you will pay a visit to old fishermen villages, Draverna and Kintai. In Vente Cape, you will visit the Bird ringing station where you will find out about millions of birds passing through this magic place every season.
Approx. a 19-mile-long bus ride and 31 miles on a bike). An overnight stay in Silute.
Day 4. Silute-Rusne-Uostadvaris-Nida. (around a 10-mile-long bike ride and about a 9-mile-long trip with ferry)
On this day the trip will take you all the way to Nemunas Delta which is home to a nature reserve. On your way, you will pass the historic Bismarck colony and a bridge until you reach Rusne Island. The Lithuanian-Russian border is located at the approximate middle of the Neman/Memel river. In Rusne, you can always grab some freshly smoked fish sold by the local fishermen. Our next stop is Uostadvaris – home to an old lighthouse and water pumping station. From there, you will be sailing on a ship to Nida. Approx. a 12-mile-long bike ride and an hour-long trip on a ship. An overnight stay in Nida.
Day 5. Nida (around 6-mile-long bike ride)
Today is all about getting to know Nida – the pearl of the Baltic coast. You will have the chance to visit the great Parnidis Dune, the summer residence and museum of the Nobel prize-winning author Thomas Mann and the local amber gallery, old fishermen cemetery, and the museum of a historic artists’ colony. After a hearty lunch, it is high time to take a dip in the sea or a pleasant walk around Nida. Approx. 6 miles on a bike. An overnight stay in Nida.
Day 6. Nida-Klaipeda (around 34-mile-long bike ride)
Nida-Klaipeda. This part of the trip involves a bike ride along the Curonian Spit on an asphalt cycle track on the coast of the Baltic Sea. On our way, you will visit the so-called dead dunes, a spooky cormorant colony, and the Hill of Witches. Subject to weather conditions, you will be also provided with an opportunity to take a swim in the sea. Arrival at Smiltyne. An overnight stay in Smiltynes or Klaipeda.
Day 7. Individual departure or extension of the trip.
